Correla has now gone more than 2,000 days without a lost time injury (LTI). It’s a milestone we’re proud of, and a good moment to recognise the everyday commitment to safety across our business.

Milestones like this don’t often make headlines outside the business. But behind the number are colleagues who make safe choices, raise concerns and look out for one another every day. It’s an achievement they all share.

What is an LTI, and why does the count matter?

A lost time injury is a work-related injury that results in someone needing time away from work to recover. Tracking LTI-free days helps us understand one aspect of our safety performance, alongside hazard and near-miss reporting, training and the effectiveness of our controls. Everyday actions matter: following safe working practices, speaking up about a hazard and looking out for a colleague.

Reaching 2,000 days reflects a sustained commitment across our teams over more than five years. It doesn’t mean we have had no incidents or that every risk has been eliminated. Open reporting remains essential: we want colleagues to raise every injury, hazard and near miss so we can learn and act, regardless of its impact on the milestone.

Preventing work-related ill health matters just as much as preventing injuries. Our focus also includes the physical and psychological effects of work, which an LTI-free milestone alone cannot capture.

Why this matters at Correla

Safety matters at Correla because our people and their expertise are at the heart of the services our customers rely on. Protecting their health, safety and wellbeing helps them work confidently and supports a reliable, resilient business.

For our desk-based and hybrid teams, this means proactively managing risks to physical and psychological health, maintaining safe working environments and ensuring effective emergency arrangements. Whether colleagues are working at home, in the office or adapting to changes in our workspace, they deserve to feel that their safety matters and their concerns will be heard.

For me, that means knowing our teams, understanding the risks they face and working with them to find practical solutions. When people see that safety measures protect their interests as well as Correla’s, they are more likely to embrace them, speak up and look out for one another.

How trust and simplicity keep our people safe

Trust is central to how we work.

We’ve built strong relationships between the HS&E team, colleagues and key supply partners, including Facilities Management. These relationships help people feel comfortable raising concerns and asking for support. We strengthen that trust by listening, working through issues together and showing people what has been done in response.

There’s also real power in keeping safety simple. The nature of our office-based and hybrid work allows us to keep guidance and processes proportionate to the risks our people face. Making them clear, practical and easy to follow supports adoption while maintaining the standards that protect our people and keep Correla compliant.

Our HS&E team’s role has evolved to focus more on working alongside teams, anticipating risks and making safety easier to manage. We’re currently focused on supporting our office changes and continuing to improve through our ISO 45001-certified health and safety management system. By expanding self-service options and using automation, we’re putting safety information at colleagues’ fingertips while keeping personal support available when they need it.

Everyone has a part to play, from colleagues across our teams to senior leadership. Knowing that our leaders share our commitment helps keep safety a priority across Correla.

How Correla marked the moment

When we reached 2,000 days in August 2026, the moment didn’t pass quietly. Correla organised a celebration to recognise the achievement and thank everyone who contributed.

We kept it simple but fun:

    • Over a few days, our senior leaders shared their pride in what we’ve achieved together and reaffirmed their commitment to keeping safety a priority.
    • Colleagues posted selfies with our celebration balloons and shared what the milestone meant to them.
    • We made safety a little sweeter with a table full of delicious treats.
    • As we love a quiz at Correla, everyone was invited to a Friday afternoon quiz on Teams, with questions themed around the number 2,000, the year 2000 and, of course, safety.
    • Golden tickets worth 2,000 pennies (£20) were awarded as quiz prizes.

The celebration was as much about looking forward as looking back.

Milestones like this are worth celebrating, and worth building on.

The goal isn’t to reach 2,000 days and stop paying attention. It’s to keep building on the habits and awareness that got the business here.

Keeping the momentum going

Sustaining a strong safety culture takes ongoing effort. That means keeping training up to date, encouraging colleagues to raise concerns and using reports of hazards, near misses and incidents, alongside feedback, to guide improvements.

For Correla, 2,000 LTI-free days is an achievement to be proud of and a credit to everyone across the business.

Our priority remains protecting our people, every day.
